In ihrer Schönheit, in ihrer Kargheit. Russell Joslin fühlt das Leben. In all seiner Schwierigkeit. Und teilt dies. Schön ist das. Momentan tourt er mit Sarah McCaig (AUS).
Russell Joslin brings the tradition of the folk singer-songwriter into the 21st century with a new stridency; representing the new breed of socially engaged DIY wordsmiths with the non-industry ethics of punk and the musical elements of folk, seeking grass roots connections though a desire to create unique and confrontational music using old methods, thereby placing a ragged flag in the ground of UK music. In 2009 Joslin’s first bedroom-folk album ‘Dream Token’ was received by the press as ‘a much needed gust of fresh air into the British folk scene’ (Subba Cultcha) whilst his sophomore effort ‘Jet Black And White’ (2011) led to national radio play on BBC radio and XFM.
When Sarah McCaig and Russell Joslin met in an east London flatshare in 2013 it was a meeting of souls which resulted in one of the most intriguing romantic duets on the London folk scene and marked Joslin’s return to the folk scene; (‘ the musical charge they generated together was truly electrifying’ – Musicboxfolk.com). Sarah grew up in Melbourne, Australia, she progressed from lead vocalist in numerous musical theatre productions to singer in St.Kilda based rock bands. Her unique voice and melodically dissonant harmony style coupled with Joslin’s songwriting has been described as ‘extreme folk at its best’ by Folkwords.com
So far in 2015 the duet have performed 3 tours of continental Europe, taking in Finland, Germany and Switzerland, FMM Sines World Music Festival in Portugal, Sark Folk Festival
Lyme Regis Folk Weekend plus numerous high profile London dates including a November gig supporting Martha Tilston in Dalston and a further support slot at London’s prestigious King’s Place in March 2016.
